Job Description Summary
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager.
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT
performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized
patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired
outcomes. The PCTs are necessary for the following: transport
specimens to ART, ensure appropriate equipment is ready and
available for the OR cases to optimize flow, retrieve tissue from
Main OR necessary for cases, wipe down patient beds, assist with OR
cleanliness as needed, maintains and retrieves patient care
equipment, scans instrument trays and obtains instruments from SPD,
stock linen for OR, Holding, and PACU.

Job Summary/Purpose: The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to
the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered
Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a
decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve
desired outcomes. There are various duties for the PCT role in the
operating room that may differ from a traditional PCT role in an
inpatient setting. Our OR PCT role includes practice in OR policy,
patient safety, and surgical site reductions with duties to
include: specimen transport, ensuring appropriate operating room
equipment is ready for use, and assisting with patient beds to
include overall cleanliness.
Minimum Training and Education: A high school diploma or equivalent
(GED) required. One year of patient care work experience in a
health care facility, Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT or Paramedic
certification, Bachelor's Degree or enrollment in a healthcare
related program with successful completion of a Nursing Assistant,
Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course at an accredited
institution or equivalent training preferred.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life
Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain
Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or
AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for
Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient
that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For
every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from
another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400
lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required
to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to
maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.
